Introduction
Objectives of this training course
The aim of this course is to strengthen gender awareness and mainstreaming of gender concerns into trade policy, programmes and projects by COMESA Secretariat, COMESA Institutions, and Member States.
Leaning outcomes of this course
By the end of this course, it is expected that course participants will be able to:
1. Understand key gender concepts and definitions;
2. Understand key trade concepts, terms and definitions relevant to regional economic integration in COMESA;
3. Understand key COMESA trade programmes, projects and initiatives; and
4. Acquiring gender analytical skills.
Organization of the manual
This training manual is organized in five (5) Modules as follows: Module One is an introduction to the training; Module Two is on introduction to gender with a special emphasize on gender concepts and definitions; Module Three is on introduction to and discusses key concepts and definitions in trade with respect to gender mainstreaming in trade in COMESA; Module Four is on the linkages between trade and gender with focus on COMESA Programmes; and Module Five is on gender mainstreaming. At the end of each module, there is a quiz consisting of 10 questions for the participant self- evaluation. The pass mark for each module is 60 percent.
